first week of winter term (since I know the 5 people who read this,
prepare to hear about college):The NW snow storm of 2004. Monday morning came with ice and snow...physical evidence of my complete lack of enthusiasm. My 9am arabic class is an hour away. I left my house between 7:30-7:45... put my car in park on the interstate for a good 30 minutes... and finally arrived in Corvalis at 9:45... ALHAMDU LILLAH my professor is understanding.
...avoided severe sliding and spinning because my car has wings...or something. Drove by mounds of glass waves dressing the hills. They were so frozen they possesed their own tide. It was hypnotic to see the world after that Disney ice-fairy skated it into crystal.
My first dance class was cancelled, and the second only had 6 kids registered. We decided to become a company and do it anyway. had fun. I enjoy Sue- she genuinely loves her students.
My Geology/Hydrology/Oceanography pick a name class, was alright. The Dr. is funny... but i confess I miss my Biology prof- he was fabulous.
Linguistics: Semantics-cognition and discourse was wonderful, but I am afraid that the class is going to kick my butt. The first day was easy, we talked about morphology and phonology, and then began the philosophical world of semantics... Sher, you would adore this class. It's premise is what we do in normal conversation: "before we go there, let's define "turn" because if we do not have a concurring definition then there is no benefit in continuing this discussion" and once you have a definition you find the loopholes in common uses of the word to show why the definition is inadequate... and start again. It's a philosophy class built on students' expertise of linguistics... unfourtunately I have no expertise, only an enjoyment and a knack... and its a 496 class. Anyway, i am still mildly intimidated, but I get the matieral just fine.
Monday evening I stopped by a friends house before heading home... my father rang me and informed me that the weather was becoming quite dangerous and he thinks I should stay in Monmouth for the night and not go to school in the morning. Yes, that's correct, my father told me to skip class... so I honored my daddy and stayed where I was. Impromptu slumber party.
Teusday morning I woke up and got ready to drive to Arabic. I thought I should check the news to make sure that the roads were ok and to see if I needed to email ustatdadatii that I couldn't get to class. Cameras showing the roads were iced over. All the Universities had closed down. I felt like a jr. high kid. ...this is where I went back to sleep.
Played with my friends: sorry, clue, editing Steph's 14 yr. old sister's english paper...
Wednesday: insert Teusday morning here.
had a conversation with a dear friend who I have not talked to for over a year... my dearest sir... it was the first time that we couldnt simply pick our friendship up where we left off... broke my heart.
Thursday brought an end to the severe road closures... (I was able to walk across the snow without even making a footprint) and back to school for me and my Willamette Valley- although Portland is still closed... yes, the whole city-basically.
Yeah for Arabic. Yeah for Choreography and Deborah. Yeah for my science prof. letting me come late so I can take dance composition. Yeah for belly dancing with sills.
(Sher, the class has decided my name is "rockstar" I gladly hand the name back over to you... I am SO not an extrovert)Drea... your bed is 10,000 x more comfortable than mine. No wonder you never wanted to wake up... I think it's a curse -wink- i woke up at 7:54 this morning.
gave Dr. Paladgyi a ride home today (the theater prof. who is also an ordanied Episcapalian Minister and ASKED to be on my thesis committee). She wanted to hook me up with her son until she found out how old I was-he is 38, and she says i would be "the ideal tenant." She has a 3-story home in Sherwood (just south of Portland... by Tualitin) she is trying to rent out but cannot find anyone to move in. (Already went there in my mind Drea... the rent is $14000... it's a NICE house). I told her I would call her if I stayed in the Portland area indefinately... she just makes me feel good. She makes everyone feel good. If any of you want to move in despite the $$, let me know and I'll give you her number.
Tonight I am showing Stephanie and Saul Fight Club becuase she has never seen it and is dying to. Tomorrow I have an audition. Yes Drea, I'm auditioning. I miss you like crazy... and I love you so much I think I could almost transport you back here... if only I was telekinetic. *muah
yes I am lonely since you left. Tell me all about AIF.
